Just Add Gesso
Within each artist's studio there is an immense sense of pride which is palpable to anyone who enters.
Amongst the piles of sketchbooks and paintings in progress, exists an eclectic collection of odds and ends...posters, reference books, scraps of this and bits of that, knick knacks, all rounded out by years of accumulated supplies and tools.
The studio is sacred, it is an artist's temple It is their refuge.
By far the most difficult part of moving four thousand miles from home is having to pack that refuge away and attempt to start anew. It is easy to find yourself reeling, unsure which tools take precedence. What medium do you want to invest the time, energy, and funds into re-sourcing?
Slowly (ever so slowly), but surely, the process of rebuilding my temple has begun as the marketplace gods were in my favor and I've acquired a beautiful easel.
Here's to seeing where this new studio takes me.
